“Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.” That iconic football culture phrase describes how I feel as I observe the work of our church network — thousands of girls, boys, women, and men experience a living witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through VBS. Thousands more experience a living witness through Sunday worship, mission projects here and abroad, and other Gospel-centered work.
Clear Eyes — “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling…” (Eph 1:18a CSB).Enlightened means clear-eyed and focused. Clear eyes focused on the hope Jesus brings to people is essential as the church engages in its mission.
Full Hearts —Clear Eyes about our Gospel mission gives us hearts full of God’s hope, God’s richness, and God’s power. God gives us all we need to do the mission he commands. Seeing the richness of God in our churches engaged in the mission of God is truly glorious.
Can’t Lose — the presence of the resurrected Jesus Christ every time even two or three gather in his name is victory. Resurrection power means we can’t lose (Eph 1:19-20). The church must expect God to do great things because God does great things.
You can get a taste of “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” by watching the Facebook live videos on our CBA Facebook page. Seeing the church engaged in Gospel work clears our eyes, fulls our hearts, and shows us Jesus can’t lose!
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength. He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens” — Ephesians 20-1:18 CSB
